Vesper

January 28, 2018 in General

Well blogging once a week I guess was a bit aggressive... I did make a list of stuff to write about but still struggling through it. Here is a light weight entry just to keep things going...

2017 was largely a pretty crap year. We started the year with great optimism as we were expecting our first child and daughter Brooklyn. After Brooklyn passed away on February 20th, 2017 we had no idea what to do and how we would get through the grief. My wife had grown up with dogs and we had always talked about getting one down the road. Our hearts were broken and we needed something to love, we thought getting a dog sooner than planned would help fill the void.

The breed we wanted was a Labrador retriever, black in colour and female. We also planned to run away for a while and hoped to be able to take a dog home when we returned to reality. After almost a week of contacting every breeder west of Ontario and the northern United States we finally found a puppy meeting our criteria/timeline in Salmon Arm, BC. It was a good feeling having something to look forward to.

Next step was to come up with a name. We happened to watch Casino Royale (James Bond) days after finding the puppy and when we heard the "Bond" girl's name of Vesper we both knew the decision was made.

We picked Vesper up shortly after returning from Australia. She has been a life saver, something to care for and teach as well as giving us a reason to leave our home. She also gave me something to take pictures of. Her birthday is also February 21, the day after Brooklyn left us and in a way they seem tied together.

Vesper is now 11 months old.  Here are some of my favourite images of her.

First time heading up Tunnel Mountain, definitely some of the best views of Banff. Mount Rundle towering over the Banff Springs golf course. Feels good to be a tourist again and fortunate to live close to the Rockies!

#travelAlberta #shareyyc First strike of 2020, kicking myself for missing my bucket list shot of the Calgary tower being struck a couple weeks ago. Also first attempt using the Canon EOS R... going to have the check my settings but I think there was a pause between shots cau #blackouttuesday Day 61: The evening performance. This is all part of the bed time routine these days.... followed by wine. Long weekend! Any exciting plans? Day 41: French toast has been a staple in our diet this last month. Prepare a whole loaf, toss it in the freezer, then can pop them in the toaster and have French toast all week! What y’all been making? Day 31: Our escape from the screen. Once Delcan has gone to bed and the dog has been ran/walked, puzzling has helped keep us sane! What has been your goto evening activity to unplug? Day 25: @vespertheblab patiently waiting for her play time... truthfully she doesn’t get as much as she should since Declan arrived. But she does get us out of the house daily for walks. Toughest thing for her is not being allowed to meet eve Day 18: This is the first post of the virus lockdown series. We began feeding Declan solids the day I started working from home. It has allowed me to participate in the lunch time feedings, his reaction to the different tastes has been priceless and What a crazy time to be alive, working from home, self isolating, cancelling travel plans (hopefully just postponing), no end in sight... might change things up for the next few weeks and try to document this strange reality... Shout out to all the p Only good thing about day light savings is getting to see this from the office for a few more weeks... otherwise we should can it...
